50th for 1955!

On a very rainy Friday evening, October 14, 2005, over half of the remaining members of the HHS Class of 1955 gathered for a welcoming buffet in a meeting room at the Courtyard by Marriott in Tarrytown. It was a great beginning of our 50th reunion. Saturday morning most everyone met in the high school auditorium for the HHS Alumni Association yearly meeting. Following the meeting, we were all treated to a light lunch in the school cafeteria (not at all like the cafeteria we used to know). We then took a guided tour of the school. We then took a guided tour of the school.

About thirty of us went on to the Newington Cropsey Museum. Those who ventured on to the Hastings Historical Society found lots of pleasure looking through old yearbooks and other memorabilia that brought back reminders of our growing up in idyllic Hastings-on-Hudson during the years we all think of as "the best time ever."

It was rather chilly out Saturday evening but no one noticed once we were all gathered for the banquet at the Crowne Plaza in White Plains. At the "cocktail" hour we had time to talk and rekindle our old friendships. After a beautifully presented and even more delicious dinner, John Palomino tested our memories with questions that linked our senior year with current events of the same time.

Dessert, dancing (to 50s music on CDs instead of records like we had in high school), looking at a wonderful display of photos (some from high school days and some of our "kids" and grandchildren) and lots of talking and laughing took up the rest of the evening. On Sunday morning, everyone who could met for brunch at the Courtyard. We all agreed that there was not enough time to be with each other but that it was a heartwarming and momentous weekend for each of us.

Class of '65 Reunion

The reunion was a great success with over 60 people attending, almost all of them classmates. Friday night was a laid-back night getting together at the Southside Club. It was a wonderful setting for us and Ottto was a great host! Saturday's picnic was a big hit, and all those present had a great time. There was a a write-up about it in the local paper. Saturday night had a lot of people who had not been at either of the other events and we had a big room at the Crowne Plaza in White Plains. They, incidentally, took us in after the Hilton/Doubletree was rained out for our date in July, and the staff was very helpful. We had a DJ who got a lot of people up dancing. Bev Rohlehr sang two great songs a capella, and Walter Waxman entertained us as Master of Ceremonies. Mr. Ray Smith, a beloved history teacher, gave a really nice speech as well. At 12:45 a.m., the room closed up, but about two dozen of us stayed on in the lounge 'til about 3 a.m. still reminiscing. We really had a great class. Also, on Saturday, seven of us played golf instead of going to the picnic, and that was a wonderful time too, with perfect weather on the course that afternoon. Everyone had a wonderful time, and already look forward to our next reunion!

Class of '64: A Fabulous 40th!

Jane Finkeldey Stephenson was the organizer of the class of '64 reunion. There are currently about 100 members of the class of '64, and with the help of two determined classmates/detectives, they were able to find (through very hard work) all but about a dozen of the members of the class. "Of the approximately 88 members, we now have correct addresses for about 45 who attended the reunion in October. Also attending were members of the classes of '63 and '65 who came to the reunion because they had close friends in our class. Coach Dick Bub also attended. We had an absolutely fabulous time. This had been our first reunion in 10 years, and there were many who had not previously attended the 25th or 30th reunions, so were seeing old friends for the first time in 40 years. Monica Grothe Lietha came the farthest -- all the way from Switzerland!

We had a perfect fall weekend for the reunion. We toured the High School in the morning, then had a picnic on the river, and then went to the Homecoming football game. Our dinner was at the Westchester Marriott." (THANKS to Jane for this report)Jane, who did a great job, has stated that she would be "happy to offer free advice to anyone in other classes who are thinking about planning their class reunion…. SO MAKE A NOTE! If you are planning a reunion and want some terrific advice, contact the Alumni Assoc. and we will get you together with Jane.

Class of '54's 50th!

The class of '54 reunion was held October 8-9, 2004. It was a beautiful fall weekend. It was also "Homecoming Weekend"; therefore, there were many activities going on at that time -- Annual Alumni Meeting, football game, soccer game, visits to the Historical Society Cottage and Cropsey House, etc.

There were 90 students in the Class of 1954 and about 32 class members present at one or both of the reunion evenings -- so with spouses/friends, there were about 52 people present. Fourteen members of the Class of 1954 are deceased. Our reunion weekend started on Friday evening with an informal get-together at the Uniontown Fire House with wine, beer, soda and a buffet. On Saturday evening the reunion continued at The Hilton Hotel in Tarrytown with a more "formal" reception (cocktail hour and buffet dinner). All present seemed to enjoy themselves with hopes of getting together soon

Thanks to Joan Illmensee Haubold for this report.

One Last Note . . .

If your class is planning a reunion, or if you have recently had a reunion and would like to tell us about the great experiences, we will be very pleased to put your story in this section. We also may be able to help you locate some of your missing classmates, so let's hear from you. Further, with our tax free status, we may be able to work out some savings for your classmates.
